The Wayland Garden Club was founded in 1922 by Mrs. Hazel Clement and was one of the earliest established in Massachusetts during the garden club movement that began at the turn of the century. For more information about our history please click here.

Since 1922, our club has actively sought to stimulate and educate members in their knowledge and practice of conservation, horticulture and the artistic use of plant material throughout the community.  Our passion is evident with our well attended lectures and community service projects.

Monthly Meetings

On the fourth Tuesday of the month, the Club membership meets for coffee and conversation and to listen to speakers presenting on many topics.  Some recent topics have included:

·      the sustainable enough garden

·      holiday arrangements from your garden

·      organic pest and disease management

Workshops

The club also has hands-on workshops where members can meet in small groups and learn new skills.  Some recent workshop topics have included:

·      container gardening

·      holiday centerpieces

·      houseplant makeover

·      fairy gardens

·      sowing from seed

Community Service

The Wayland Garden Club maintains gardens and planters throughout Wayland.  Members tend gardens at the Wayland Settlement sign on Boston Post Road, the Wayland Free Public Library and a pollinator garden on the Rail Trail.  The Club also maintains planters at the Town's public and historic buildings, as well as several traffic islands in town.

Every year, the Club also runs a gardening with seniors program at local assisted living facilities and a Giving Tree event providing gifts for children during the holiday season.

Other Activities

The Club decorates the Historical Society's Grout Heard House for their annual open house with flower arrangements and greens.  The Club also helps decorate the Wayside Inn for the holidays.

Each May, the Club has a plant sale and each June, a field trip to gardens and arboretums in the area.
